Commercial Winter Site Plan Checklist

A practical pre-season review aligns access priorities, communication, documentation and material use.

Walk the site before winter

Photograph visible hazards, mark drains and obstacles, and confirm accessible routes, fire access and snow-storage areas with the person who opens the property.

A scope that survives a shift change

• Labelled treatment zones and opening times.
• Clearing and treatment triggers agreed in writing.
• Inspection responsibilities and escalation contacts.
• Private handling of access credentials.
• Records of work, exceptions and follow-up.

Review after the event

Check where meltwater went and whether pedestrians used the planned route. Update the map when observed behaviour differs from the original assumptions.

Document conditions

Review the forecast, pavement temperature, surface condition, drainage and product label. Record what was applied, where and when. Reassess after traffic, precipitation or temperature changes.

Build a repeatable process

• Define the treatment objective before choosing material
• Use equipment suited to the target surface
• Calibrate output instead of relying on a dial position
• Inspect results and document changing conditions
